It's in your Gut... your health, that is.

70% of your immune system is located in your gut. Crazy right? Sounds like baloney, but it's true. Your gut is not just for your mushed and chewed food to sit in before you poop it out.

Your gut is home to literally trillions of bacteria that basically control your immune system, digest your food, protect you (or give you, depending on your population of flora and balance) from illness, allow nutrients to absorbed from food, and even produce nutrients themselves such as K2 and B-Vitamins.

Good gut bacteria rid your body of toxins, heavy metals, chemicals, viruses, and other pathogenic bacteria. Their a major player in the production of your immune response.

Just from that information alone, it is easy to see why probiotic bacteria and a healthy gut is very important in human heath.

When our gut bacteria get's destroyed by antibiotics, percsciption medications like NSAIDS, steriods and birth control, stress (can negatively affect probiotic population), caffeine consumption (1 serving of caffeine kills something like 50 million flora, more on this later), and poor food choices, our health suffers.

Junk food like refined carbs and sugars, feed only the bad microbes and yeasts in our bodies, causing overgrowth of bacteria that would normally be in check by probiotic bacteria. Thats not to say that, if you generally follow the diet I outlined in the first post, and then have a piece of dark chocolate, your flora will be thrown so far off balance that your health will decline. No, it becomes a problem when junk refined foods play a major, or even 20% role of your diet, especially if your flora has been compromised for much of your life.

So... how to heal the gut and re-establish good gut bacteria?

If you have serious digestive issues, and still have them on the diet I outlined in the first post (meat, potatoes and tubers, raw dairy, fermented veggies, cooked veggies, eggs, probiotics, no sugars, low omega 6, no grains or pasturized dairy) then you should look into these:

The Gaps Diet - Has healed children with Autism and adults with serious digestive issues. Not many diets can boast such remarkable results.

Colostrum - definitely had some great benefits with this, "the first milk" from the cow after birth, full of immune boosting properties and healing nutrients, it is often recommened for leaky gut and digestive issues, as well as autoimmune diseases with quite a bit of success.

Probiotics - A componet of the diet I outline here, but may not be necessary for some. I use Dr. Ohhira's, Theralac, and L. Rueteri at the moment with excellent results so far (only 3 weeks into Ohhira's and L. Rueteri). All can be found for discounted prices on iHerb.com, which is a great resource due to the informative reviews and feedback given by users.
The Raw Milk Diet - Probably responsible for a good 85% of my healing. I will outline it in a future post because there is alot that goes with it and it is important to understand the rules and why it works.

So those are the basics of healing your gut. There is more in-depth information out there than what I have presented here, by googling "probiotics, gut health, gut bacteria, or leaky gut" you can get lost in the wealth of information on the net there is on this stuff. But what I have outlined here is the basics, and from experience the most effective ways of going about healing and restoring gut health.
